Spinal trauma is complex, involving a wide range of soft tissue and osseous injuries in a variety of spinal regions. Knowledge of the anatomic and functional characteristics of the different spinal regions allows the physician to understand the injuries that are unique to each area. This chapter emphasizes the role of diagnostic imaging in evaluating patients with acute spinal injury.
